Multi-Trait-Multi-Method Investigation of the Simultaneous-Successive-Planning Model

Constructs that comprise the Simultaneous-Successive-Planning model were assessed to determine their convergent and discriminate validity by use of a Multi-Trait-Multi-Method (MTMM) procedure. Participants, 120 college students, responded to a battery of tests purported to measure the constructs of Simultaneous and Successive processing and of Planning. Results from the MTMM matrix failed to confirm predictions from the model; obtained coefficients ranged from .01 to .35. The constructs do not appear robust relative to other sources of variance, especially method variance. Consequently, the advisability of implementing narrow, non-method-oriented model-based treatement interventions appears questionable.
