Further Validation of the Students' Life Satisfaction Scale: The Independence of Satisfaction and Affect Ratings

E. Scott Huebner

University of South Carolina

Children's self-reports of global life satisfaction and positive and negative affect were analyzed via principal components analysis. Consistent with multidimensional theories of subjective well-being, satisfaction ratings were differentiated from affective ratings, which provides further support for the construct validity of the life satisfaction measure (SLSS). Implications of the findings for the conceptualization and assessment of children's mental health are discussed.
